Desiccant Breathers
If your operations take place where there are high levels of humidity and airborne particulates, desiccant breathers are an excellent choice for protecting the lubrication integrity of your equipment and machinery.

What Are Desiccant Breathers?
Desiccant breathers are a step up from alternatives for their ability to prevent moisture entry into the lubricant. To some, it may seem counter-intuitive that oil can be contaminated by water. After all, the old saying that oil and water don’t mix has been around forever, and we’ve all seen it demonstrated.
Unfortunately, water is a severe issue for lubrication. It can exist in oil in three different states: dissolved, emulsified, and free. And as oil ages, it can hold more water. Eventually, the water will react with the oil and its additives to create equipment-damaging effects.
How Do Desiccant Breathers Work?
Desiccant breathers use a combination of materials to protect machinery from particulate and moisture contamination and damage. As air is drawn into the filter through the aspiration of the equipment, filter materials remove airborne particulates. Different media are available to trap different size particles.
The filtered air next flows over a layer of silica gel beads where moisture is absorbed and kept away from the lubricants.
